This is probably for African American women only. My hair isnt natural but I dont get relaxers often. I get them about every 6-8 months. Typically I'll wait until it's unbearablem then I'll relax it. But by no means, is my hair texture ';straight';. It is very tightly curled( and thats putting it nicely LOL). I'm thinking of going to the Dominican Hair Salon. My hair is getting a little rough, esp at the roots. I heard that Dominicans do an excellent job at starightening without any chemicals, but it's excruciatingly painful. Is this true ladies. I'm going today right after work. So after 5:00pm help a sister out. Thanks !How Painful is hair straightening done by Dominican Salon Stylist's?
Being dominican myself, as a child my sisters and my mother would go to the salon every week to get a dominican blowout and I had to go with them. Being a guy I don't know how painful it is but my sisters never complained; that might have been because most dominicans are used to it. We have a motto: ';Quien quiere cabello bonito, tiene que aguantar jalones'; translation: ';who ever wants pretty hair has to bare the pulls';. They also say hair gets softer the more you comb it. Thats how a lot of dominicans get the soft hair after years of blowouts. Well .... getting to the point I honestly would only recommend it if you only did it once for several reasons:
- So that you can experience it and see if you can bare the heat.
- Also because dominicans are a really mixed (racially); so their hair is very different to african american hair or any other type of hair. I say this because I've heard several stories of AA women who say that their hair is to fragil to take the heat yet dominicans get blowouts all their life and their hair just gets softer.
- So that you can see what hair products they use and take notes.
A lot of the difference between dominican hair and african american hair is (as i've been told) that AA women use strong chemicals in their hair since their young (not all but most) and dominicans are known for only using natural products in their hair. I recall my mother showing my sister how to prepare an avocato recipe for her hair and my sisters hair would come out really shiny. You would be suprised if you knew the things you could do with fruit.
Go for it. Try it just once and see if any damage occurs after a while if theirs no damage than great!
Hope this info helps!
PS: if any one tells you that dominicans don't realize that their just burning their hair, don't listen. My grandmother still gets blowouts. This is not something new its been done for years. How Painful is hair straightening done by Dominican Salon Stylist's?
