What can a person do to make sure they get a good haircut at a salon and the stylist is not lazy?

Even if you already know what you want, ask them what they would suggest. If they have a hard time answering or if they just suggest a trim or something very simple like that, ask for someone else or just say sorry but you think it would be best if you went somewhere else. If they have no imagination or don't seem to thrilled to be cutting your hair, they don't really want to be cutting your hair and you will most likely not like it in the end. What can a person do to make sure they get a good haircut at a salon and the stylist is not lazy?
go to a really good place to get your hair cut, and emphasize EXACTLY what you wantWhat can a person do to make sure they get a good haircut at a salon and the stylist is not lazy?
Keep on watching what she is doing and make sure she knows that you're watching.
Honestly, you can't do a whole lot except ask around to see if there's a really good stylist in your area whom a lot of people like and go to. Or find a good salon that people like where the stylists are good in general.

Be polite, open, interactive, and tell them exactly what you want. Though that still won't guarantee you a great haircut. I recently started getting highlights because I wanted to go blonde. The girl who first did my hair worked on me two times. The both times she gave me full highlights. She did an amazing job. I loved my hair because she knew exactly what to do to turn it into how I wanted my hair to look.

Then she quit her job so I had to have another girl work on my hair. She was nice in general and interactive, but she was very cocky and constantly talked about how she has more experience and does a better job than the other girls basically. It was weird but she did a good job, however, her suggestions on what to do with my hair were something that I was not interested in at the time and she kept being pushy so I didn't go to her again.

Then the last girl I went to (all at the same salon) was very nice, she asked exactly what I wanted and looked like she knew what to do. She totally screwed up my hair, turned my roots and the rest of the unbleached strands orange. She tried to fix it but had no clue how so she asked the others for help. She finally fixed it to the best of her abilities yet my hair was still more yellow than I liked. Since she had to bleach my hair twice (didn't leave it on long enough the first time), left it too yellow on the top and didn't fix the rest, and turned my previous highlights completely white, I was not too happy. I let her get away with it because I didn't feel like spending more time at the salon or wasting anyone's time, including my own. After that I decided to learn to bleach my own hair. Now I do it myself and definitely do a better job than she did.

So basically you can't do much except hope that they have the skills and knowledge to make your hair look good.
One sure way to make sure you get a good haircut is to go to a more professional or high end salon, and to make sure that the stylist has at least 2 years of experience rather than someone who has just graduatede from beuty school and gotten their liscence.

Another thing is to go to a salon where you can understand what everyone is saying. No offence to anyone, but every once in a while, there will be a salon you will go into where you won't be able to understand others because of a language barrier as well as a thick accent you don't understand very well.

But you should also make phone calls to each salon and ask any questions you may have.
I've never worked with a lazy stylist or had my hair cut by a lazy stylist, so I don't know what you're talking about. But in order to get a good cut, you need to have good communication. Explain what you do %26amp; don't like, bring a picture of what you want, %26amp; when your stylist is done with your cut tell her if there's something you don't like about it. Don't be more than 5 mins late for your appointment or show up right before closing time, that puts us in a rush.
Just give him/her a cup of tea or coffee
